Budget Savvy Tips – Focal Points

By January 26, 2024February 5th, 2024No Comments

Focal points are areas of an event that draw the eyes attention, which invokes the curiosity of the viewer, and are typically more dramatic than all other elements. Focal points can also be used to direct traffic to specific areas of the event, by pulling the viewer towards certain areas – like grand entrances. They can also be used to hide undesirable fixtures or surroundings by focusing attention elsewhere.

Focusing on building focal points is a great way to keep your budget in check. Instead of spreading your budget too thin by trying to decorate the entire venue location, choose specific areas and do them up right. This will not only save you time & money, but it can create a cohesive look throughout your event.

Here is a list of Focal Points you might want to take into consideration:

  • Grand Entrances
  • Ceiling & Lighting Treatments
  • Backdrops & Perimeter Draping
  • Soft Seating & Photo Booth Areas
  • Bar & Cocktail Locations
  • Food & Dessert Tables
  • Sweethearts Tables, Head Tables & Guest Tables
  • Gifts & Cards Area
  • Signing Table
  • Aisleways & Altar
  • Dance Floor & DJ/Band Location
  • Activities & Entertainment Areas
  • Snacks & Refreshment Stations
  • Guest Speaker Placement
  • Interactive Displays – such as, photos collages, slide shows presentations, etc.
  • Stationary & Signage

USING FOCAL POINTS TO HIDE PROBLEM AREAS:

With problem areas that you are trying to hide, if you are not able to completely hide the item/area in question, the best course of action is to draw one’s eye away from the area to a focal point. The more you try to hide an area (if not completely hiding it with perimeter draping, etc.) the more you will draw one’s eye to that location.

GUEST TABLESCAPES & DECORATING:

A great tip for saving money on tablescapes, is to remember that not all guest tables need to look the same. You can create a few guest tables that are a more luxe look (the focal point), and the rest of the tables can be more minimalistic. You will still have the WOW factor from the luxe tables becoming the focal point, which will then create a memorable, lasting effect.
